A story of allowing God to work in unexpected ways.
My name is Ron Sexton. I work for the United States Postal Services. My wife Karen and I have been coming to Church Project since October of 2015. I am a dad. I have a son and a daughter, and two of the greatest grandkids you could ever want. Karen and I served for many, many years at our previous church, and I knew what one talent of mine was – that was being a musician. And, Karen knew what her’s was – being a 4 & 5 year old teacher. She served in that ministry for over 20 years, as I did in the music ministry at our other church.
When I first came in, I had missed worshipping with my wife. So when I first came to Church Project, that’s what I was longing for. And I knew it, but that didn’t last very long. God said, "I already know you have this talent, and we’ll get back to using that one. But, I want to open some more doors for you."
Two weeks ago, Karen was sick and it was our turn to serve in projectKids. I told her I was going to go ahead and go, and she agreed to that because it was a commitment we had made, and we were going to do what we said we were going to do. So, I showed up and went to the 9:30 meeting. Lo and behold, Jonas and Kristen asked me to go to the 4 year old class. I wasn’t thinking when I said, "Okay. No problem!" On the way over I went, “Oh my gosh! I’ve got to teach these kids. What do I do now?” I have never taught 4 & 5 year old kids – that was my wife’s forte.
I said, “Lord, if this is really what I’m supposed to be doing, you need to help me.” I walked in that classroom, and He led me right where I needed to be, showed me what the lesson was, and what I was supposed to be doing. I had the best time with those kids than I have ever had. You can’t beat that. Open yourself up, and let God say "You’re letting me use you. Let me show what I’m going to give you. I’m going to give you a blessing you never thought you would get. I’m going to give you these kid’s hearts. Teach them."
